Police have registered a case of murder and robbery at the Welcome police station and are interrogating relatives, friends and neighbours of the deceased. Forensic evidence has also been collected from the spot.
Wife of Uttar Pradesh BSP legislator, Haji Aleem Chowdhary, was shot at and stabbed to death at her residence in Welcome area of Northeast Delhi on Wednesday.
Deceased Rehana Chowdhary (42), the second wife of the MLA from Bulandshahar, was alone in the house, as the legislator was away on Haj pilgrimage in Mecca. The incident came to light on Wednesday morning, when her maid, Amar Jahan, found Rehana lying in a pool of blood in the living room of the New Jaffarabad residence at 9:15 am.
The police suspect the role of an acquaintance in the case, as there were no signs of forceful entry. The house was not ransacked and two cups of tea were found on a table as well. The police claim that Rs 20 lakh were missing from the house. Aleem was informed about the incident over the phone. Investigating officers also recovered two, one live and one used, .32 bore cartridges from the spot.

"We are investigating all possible angles of the case. She had received five stab wounds and a bullet injury on the chest,” said Joint Commissioner of police (Eastern Range) Sanjay Beniwal.
The attacker, police say, stabbed the deceased after pumping a bullet in her chest to avoid any noise and also to make sure that she was dead. Preliminary investigations reveal that she was first strangulated, her throat slit, shot and stabbed in the chest by the attacker. The deceased was last seen around 9 pm and neighbours claim that until midnight, everything seemed normal in the locality.
The deceased's husband Aleem and his brother Haji Yunus are facing charges for their alleged involvement in a rape case and child labour at a circus that the two brothers reportedly own.
