The West district police has unearthed a gang of robbers who would greet them with a 'Namaste' and rob them of their belongings.

The gang mostly targeted senior citizens driving alone in their cars. Around 50 cases of robberies have been attributed to them in west, north-west, south-west and central Delhi.

"The gang were on its way to carry out another robbery when they was intercepted by the police in Punjabi Bagh area," said DCP (West), Vijay Kumar.

Commenting on their modus operandi he said, "They (gang) would smile and act friendly, then rob the victim's valuables and cash at gunpoint."

The police have arrested some of the accused identified as Nasimuddin alias Naseem alias Khali (32), Sakawat (32), Guljar (29) and Naim, 21. The gang members were fond of owning luxury cars which they (allegedly) bought from the money they stole and even had a garage in Mustafabad to park them.

The police say Naseem came in contact with Mustafa in 2010, who resided in Mustafabad, Delhi. The duo started duping people by selling dummy mobile phones for which Naseem was jailed.

After his release from jail, Naseem met Sakawat and decided to form a gang to rob people with the modus operandi of greeting people with 'Namaste'.

Later, they inducted other associates into the gang and executed a series of gunpoint robberies. A case has been registered and further investigations are underway.
