The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), in a meeting held on Wednesday, discussed the issue of de-silting and waterlogging in localities under its jurisdiction.  

Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat said: “In its forecast, the Metrological Department has made it clear that there will be more than expected rainfall this monsoon. Hence, all agencies will have to work extra to tackle the problem.”

Meanwhile, it was reported during the meeting that in every zone, 10 pumps will be provided to tackle the problem of waterlogging. As many as 26 permanent pumps with power back-up will be put up at vulnerable points. Apart from this, every zone will be provided with mobile pumps.

In fact, the Engineering Department has already taken out 95 per cent silt from a length of 166 km. The taken out silt has been transported to a landfill site and the entire work of de-silting will be completed within a week.
