Rain and waterlogged roads brought trouble for commuters on the second day on Thursday in the Capital, bringing traffic virtually to a halt. While monsoon is all set to hit Delhi around July 1, already complaints are coming in that civic agencies have not done enough to prevent waterlogging.

Over 150 complaints of waterlogging were received by the Capital’s various agencies including the Delhi government’s Public Works Department (PWD) and the municipal corporations.

A total of 17 trees were uprooted in the rains on Wednesday and massive traffic jams were witnessed at various crucial stretches carrying commuters from one part of the Delhi-NCR to another including parts of Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.

Hour-long jams were also witnessed at major intersections such as Ashram Chowk, Britannia Chowk, Kashmere Gate.

“It took me 40 minutes to reach AIIMS from South Extension-I, which is otherwise a 25-minute-ride. The government must do something to fix theses stretches, as the same story repeats itself every monsoon,” said, Archana Joshi, a commuter.

The other affected areas include the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Aurobindo Marg and Nehru Place, among others, Vikas Marg, Lakshmi Nagar, Dwarka underpass, Nirankari Road and Tilak Bridge, Kahsmere Gate, and the Punjabi Bagh flyover.

Meanwhile, The PWD and the civic agencies have been playing a blame game, even as commuters suffer.
