Water charges in Delhi to go up by 10% as summer approaches

The party had announced that 20 kilolitres of water will be given free to each house per month. To compensate the lost revenue, DJB has decided to hike water charges post 20 kilolitres by 10%.

Delhi Jal Board has decided to hike charges by 10% for consumption over 20,000 litre water per house per month, Ani reported. This charge will be applicable for water consumption over 20 kilolitre per house per month. 

Providing free water to residents of Delhi has been one of the main pillars of Aam Admi Party (AAP) that came to power in the state earlier this year. 

The party had announced that 20 kilolitres of water will be given free to each house per month. To compensate the lost revenue, DJB has decided to hike water charges post 20 kilolitres by 10%. 

Even during its stint in power last year, AAP had asked DJB to provide free water as per its promise to Delhi citizens. 

Last year, In the 115th Board meeting of the DJB, annual budget (interim) of Rs 3,928.40 crore was passed by The Delhi Jal Board for the financial year 2014-2015.
