Commuters using Metro on a daily basis are in for some visual relief and even enjoyment as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to beautify the stations with the use of creative artworks.
As many as 11 stations on the upcoming Majlis Park–Shiv Vihar corridor of Phase III will be beautified under the project. These stations include Netaji Subhash Place, Shalimar Bagh, Naraina, Bhikaji Cama Place, Sarojini Nagar, South Extension, INA, Lajpat Nagar, Vinobha puri, Nizamuddin, and Ashram.
"As part of the project, digital glass prints will be installed on the entire shafts of lifts. The graffiti and artworks are expected to add aesthetic value to these structures as well as brighten up the premises," a DMRC official said. All these lifts run from ground to concourse and concourse to platform levels of these underground stations.
The artworks have been inspired by themes such as nature, Indian classical dance forms, and so on, and have been meticulously prepared by the DMRC's team of architects.
"Delhi Metro always endeavours to design its stations in an aesthetic manner. Artworks and installations have been put up at many of the Delhi Metro's stations. In Phase II, the lift shafts at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Metro station were decorated," the official said.
Also, on the Heritage Line, stations have artworks depicting the history and culture of the area. In the upcoming Botanical Garden–Kalkaji Mandir section also, artworks have been installed to beautify stations.
