Uzbek woman claims she was gang-raped

A 36-year-old Uzbek national alleged that she was gang-raped by her ex-boyfriend and four of his friends at her residence in Masoodpur area in south Delhi. Her former boyfriend Anubhav Yadav has been arrested by the police while the four others are yet to be arrested.

According to the police, the alleged incident took place on March 10 when the five accused reached her residence in the evening. In her complaint, the victim alleged that her former boyfriend Anubhav with whom she separated two weeks back, and one of his friends came to her place along with three of their friends. The victim thought that they had come to talk to her as Anubhav had been trying to call her and she was not responding but when she opened the door they thrashed her and beat her up, following which she fell unconscious.

When she woke up she found herself in a state of undress and had abdominal pain as well. She reached the hospital for medical aid but did not inform the authorities about the assault.

The victim told the police that she was traumatised and scared to come forward initially. On Tuesday night she filed a complaint at the Vasant Kunj police station following which a case under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code was registered. She identified two of the accused and the remaining three were unknown to her. She was living in the area for the last six months or so and earlier was in Gujarat. Further investigations are underway.
