UPSC museum showcasing India's administrative history open to public

A unique museum showcasing original pamphlets, documents, reports and other records of all the examinations conducted since the founding of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in 1916 was thrown open for the public at UPSC, Shahajan Road,on Wednesday.

The items will be displayed on a rotational basis, and the rich archive is expected to be of interest to a wide cross-section of people. At present, 147 such articles have been aesthetically displayed under one roof, said UPSC Chairperson Alka Sirohi, adding that it was also a documentation of the history, development and growth of administration in India.

Sirohi said it was a unique opportunity for students of history and candidates appearing for various examinations conducted by the Commission to learn and appreciate.

The objects on display at present are pamphlets of the Civil Service of India 1916 and 1918 examinations, Indian Imperial Police Service 1926 examination, Combined Competitive 1938 examination and pamphlets of various other examinations.

It also showcases books authored by bureaucrats, mementos received from different organisations, and panels showing lists of toppers of Civil Services examinations, Engineering Services examinations, Indian Forest Services examinations, Indian Statistical Services examination, and so on.

The entry to the museum is free and it will be open for public from 10 am to 2 pm.
