The body of a seven-year-old boy was recovered from a suitcase hidden inside the home of the family's former tenant on Tuesday. Police said that the boy had gone missing after being kidnapped from his parent's house more than a month ago, and the accused, a UPSC aspirant, was arrested.

It was the morning of January 7, when Ashish Saini, a 7-year-old who lived with his family in northwest Delhi's Swaroop Nagar, went missing. His disappearance sparked search operations following which his family filed a missing complaint lodged at Swaroop Nagar police station.

DCP northwest, Aslam Khan said following a probe the role of Avdesh Sakya, a former tenant came under suspicion. He added that Sakya was trusted by the family and the victim use to call him 'Bhaiya' (elder brother).

The DCP also said that it was late on Monday when the family revealed to the police team that Sakya left the house after staying there for five years, following an altercation between him and Ashish's parents.

"Acting on this suspicion, police picked Sakya up during the early hours on Tuesday and following questioning he confessed to have smothered the child the same day he was kidnapped. He kidnapped the boy on January 7, killed him, after which he stuffed his body in a suitcase at his house in order to dispose off it later, but failed," the officer said.
