A 20-year-old woman named Shrimathi, who moved to Delhi to prepare for her civil service exams allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her rented house in central Delhi's Karol Bagh on Saturday evening.

She left a note apologising to her parents for taking this drastic step. The incident came to light when the matter was reported after the girl's friend came to meet her at her house but got no response. The victim's friend informed the neighbours, who called the police.

The room's door was broken and the victim was found hanging from the fan in her bedroom.

DCP (central) Mandeep Randhawa said the matter is being probed. The victim, who came to Delhi from Tamil Nadu, was found hanging from her ceiling fan.

Her friend told cops that they had last talked two hours before she committed the suicide. Shrimathi was under tremendous pressure but she never thought her friend would take such a drastic step. The police have informed her grief-stricken family and her body has been handed over to them.

Her suicide note was terse and simply apologised to her family members including her brother, father and mother. Her family members told the authorities that Shrimathi didn't appear that upset when they last spoke, which was a few hours before the incident.

Shrimathi, it appears, was tremendously stressed about her studies. Aiming to become a government servant, she had shifted to Delhi after finishing her graduation in Tamil Nadu.
