The personal assistant to Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar allegedly committed suicide at his residence in South Delhi's Laxmi Bai Nagar. The deceased took the extreme step owing to marital discord.
According to the police a call was received around 2 am on Tuesday about a man found hanging from a ceiling fan. A police team was sent to the crime scene and Kundan Kumar was rushed to the Safdarjung Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
"When the crime team reached the spot, the door was locked from inside. They inspected the spot and took photographs of the crime scene. No suicide note has been recovered," said Romil Baaniya, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South.
Kumar is survived by his wife Shivani and their six-month-old son. According to the wife, they would usually have arguments and he would often beat her up as well. On Monday night, Kundan went to sleep in a different room, while his wife and baby went to the other room. Later in the night, his wife came to check on him and saw the door bolted from inside. She later climbed the terrace of the neighbouring building and saw him hanging from the ceiling fan, following which the police were informed.
The body was handed over to his relatives after the postmortem examination. Further investigations are underway.
