An unidentified man was found charred to death on the railway tracks of North-West Delhi's Shakur Basti railway station late on Saturday evening. The Delhi Police have begun to investigate the case. The post-mortem of the man would be conducted on Monday.

According to the police, a man wearing a turban was seen going up in flames on Saturday evening on the railway tracks. The police officials also recovered an empty bottle of kerosene from the location. However, it is unclear if it was a case of self-immolation or somebody had poured kerosene on him to kill him.

The body of the man was completely charred and the fact that he is a Sikh was established as he was wearing a turban. Police officials investigating the case stated that whoever informed them of the incident only saw the man in flames and hence the exact sequence of events could not be established so far.

"We received a call informing us of the incident. But, by the time the police team reached the location the body was completely burnt. We have initiated the inquest proceedings as per the procedure and have taken up investigations into the case," said Aslam Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North-West.

Sources revealed that when the incident occurred, there was confusion as the local police claimed that the case would fall under the railway police and vice-versa. However, the local police took up the case later and started its investigation.
