The Delhi police arrested a 40-year-old man who had his nephew — the adopted son of his younger brother — killed because he suspected the boy had ill intentions towards his elder brother's wife.
The victim, who was an orphan, was shot in the head on Wednesday when he was at his shop in north-east Delhi. Four associates of the accused, who is a history-sheeter, have also been arrested.
According to the police, they received information from Jag Parvesh Chandra Hospital on Wednesday evening that one person identified as Akash, 22, was brought dead to the hospital. Primary inquiries revealed that one Rahul, a friend of Akash, informed his family members that he had been shot who then rushed to the spot.
Ajit Singla, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East), said that during interrogation, the accused revealed that on the night of October 4, the deceased — along with his friends Abhimanyu, Saurav and Rahul — were drinking wine at the office of Umesh, one of Akash's family members. In the meantime, Chaman, the maternal uncle of Akash came to the office after which Akash left for the shop where he worked.
"Chaman along with Akash's friends planned a conspiracy to get rid of him as he suspected that Akash had designs on Umesh's wife. Akash had also quarrelled with his adopted father frequently demanding a share in the family property.
"Chaman then asked Akash's friends to consume more alcohol and then gave his pistol to Rahul asking him to kill Akash. After this, Rahul and his friends went after Akash and shot and killed him," Singla said.
