French technology major Thales has finally installed the much-awaited dream gates at two Metro stations on the Heritage Line. The first-of-its-kind smart gates will allow commuters to enter with a click on their mobile phones.

The two stations — Lal Qila (Red Fort) and Jama Masjid — have dream gates at the exits and the entries. As part of the pilot project, passengers will be able to buy tickets through e-wallets. Once the payment is validated, passengers will receive a QR code, which can be used to enter or exit the stations. With the dream gates solution from Thales, the DMRC has become the first public transport operator in India to introduce gates with 3D camera technology for passenger control," the firm's statement read.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the French firm will also collaborate to install Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) systems at 79 Metro stations, as part of the Phase III operations.
