Three bike-borne assailants shot at an employee of a security company and a cashier, who were accompanying a cash van, and looted at least Rs 12 lakh in Narela on Thursday afternoon. This is the second such incident in the last two days that took place in Rohini area, after two men were shot at and a similar attempt of a robbery was foiled on Monday in Metro Vihar area.

The deceased have been identified as cashier Rajnikant and security guard Prem Kumar. The robbery and double murder took place around 2:30 pm, when the van had just arrived in Narela to collect cash from a wine shop at the DSIIDC (Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation) industrial area.

According to the police, when the cash had just been loaded in the van, three armed men arrived with their faces covered. "As told by the witnesses and locals, the trio first asked the security guard to step away and then asked the cashier to hand them over the money. As the cashier resisted and tried to raise an alarm, one of them pulled out a pistol and shot him dead. Seeing the cashier collapsing, the security guard tried to intervene and he was also shot," said a senior police officer.

As both the men collapsed, the trio picked up the bag full of cash and sped away. Both of them were rushed to Raja Harishchandra Hospital, but they succumbed to the injuries. "Efforts are being made to trace the bike on which they had come. Raids are being conducted and a case of murder has been registered. Role of an insider is also being probed, who might have tipped off the accused about the movement of cash," the officer said.

DCP Rohini, Rajneesh Gupta said as the incident occurred close to the Haryana border, there is a possibility of involvement of Haryana-based criminals. "Considering the knowledge of the criminals, there may be some insider involved in giving the information. In order to ensure a speedy probe, Delhi Police Crime Branch and Special Cell have also been associated with the case," Gupta said.
