A 19-year-old boy, along with his 22-year-old friend, were allegedly mowed down by a speeding train in west Delhi's Mundka's Ghevra railway crossing on Sunday morning. The police said the couple had earphones plugged in their ears while crossing the railway track.

The deceased have been identified as Aman Malik and Alisha, the police said. The train that crushed the duo was identified as Delhi-Rohtak bound Janta Express.

"Both of them while walking had headphones plugged during which they strayed from the track. A train that was coming from behind honked but the duo could not hear the alarm. The train was too close when the boy saw it and he tried to jump onto the other track. However, the attempt failed, as the train coming on the other track crushed them," said a senior police officer, who is probing the case.

Soon after the incident, an alert was sounded following which the railway police and other security teams rushed to the spot. The duo were rushed to the nearby hospital, where they were declared brought dead.

Meanwhile, railway officials, said,"The Loco pilot of Janta Express had seen the duo on the track. However, he could not do anything to pull the train, as there was no time for him to apply brakes. He blew the horn but as they were wearing headphones, the sound could not reach them."
