In a dramatic incident on Saturday, two auto-lifters who were fleeing after allegedly stealing a vehicle, rammed into a truck in southwest Delhi's Dwarka Sector 23. The collision was such that one of them died on the spot while another managed to flee.

The deceased has been identified as Ashok Danda, 20. According to the police, the accident took place on Saturday, around 12.25 am, when one Chander Pal, a driver with Ola cabs, was returning from Gurugram to his home in Durga Vihar, Dwarka.

"When Pal reached near the traffic intersection at Dwarka, Sector 19, two youths approached him and asked him for a lift. When Pal refused, they whipped out a knife and asked him to surrender the cab, a Swift Dzire," a senior police officer said.

The two men were then fleeing with the stolen cab when just 4 km from the spot, they rammed into a truck parked on the roadside in the Dhul Siras Village area.

"Locals gathered at the spot and found that one of the two youths was still stuck inside the damaged car. They then informed the Police Control Room, after which one of the accused was rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival," the officer said.

"Looking at the condition of the car, we suspect that the accused were driving at more than 100 km per hour speed," the officer said, adding that they have registered a case of rash driving under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 279, 304A for causing death due to negligence and other sections, at the Dwarka police station.
