Two men held for trying to smuggle over £20,000 cash

Custom officials at the airport arrested two persons for trying to export foreign currency on a flight to Bangkok. Both the passengers have been placed under arrest under the provisions of section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962.

Custom officials at the airport arrested two persons for trying to export foreign currency on a flight to Bangkok. Both the passengers have been placed under arrest under the provisions of section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962.

A passenger was intercepted at the Indira Gandhi International airport who was flying to Bangkok via flight number TG 324 on April 28, 2017. Sources said that the man was attempting to export foreign currency which included 18,545 Euros and 24,550 pound sterling. His domestic help who was travelling on a domestic flight as a passenger to Amritsar was supposed to hand over the currency to him.

A detailed personal search of the domestic help resulted in the recovery of foreign currency. The currency was concealed in the false cavity found created at the bottom of the handbag he was carrying.

The recovered foreign currency was to be handed over by the domestic help who works as a driver to his employer in the International Departure Duty Free Area of the Airport. The recovered foreign currency has been seized under section 110 of Customs Act, 1962.

The seized foreign currency 18,545 Euros and 24,550 pounds sterling is equivalent to Rs 32,64,367 in Indian currency.

Both the passengers have been placed under arrest under the provisions of section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962.
