A Bharatiya Janta Party worker in Dankaur area of Greater Noida, was shot dead allegedly by the relatives of a person contesting the municipal elections scheduled on November 26 with a licensed revolver on Monday night.

According to police, the deceased has been identified as Sagar Sharma(22). Sharma who was in jewellery, was shot dead by Manoj Verma and Deepak Verma who had come on a bike. According to the complaint filed by the Sharma's brother, Abhimanyu, both of them were seating at a tent house near their house and later they got a call from their family and left for home.

"While heading back Manoj and Deepak came from behind and took Sharma about 200 meters away on the pretext of some work. 

They had an argument and later the argument got ugly. Suddenly, Manoj held him from behind and Deepak took out his revolver and shot him. The two then fled the spot," said Abhimanu. Sharma was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment . Following the complaint, an FIR has been registered under sections 302(murder) and 506(Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

"We have arrested Manoj while Deepak is still absconding. We have formed teams to nab him," said Suniti, Superintendent of Police (Rural), Gautam Buddha Nagar.

The family members alleged that Sagar and Deepak were goldsmiths. They mentioned that Deepak envied Sagar for his workmanship and demand. Manoj and Deepak are cousin brother's of Sonu Verma, a Bhartiya Janta Party candidate, who will be contesting municipal elections in the district from Dankaur seat.

"Following the election, the district magistrate had strictly ordered the police to keep a check and the candidates and their family members or relatives had to submit their licensed ammunition to the police. We have suspended the Sub Inspector of Dankaur Police chowki who had failed to collect the ammunition from their possession," Suniti added.

The incident was seen as a fallout of political rivalry. According to sources, Sagar was seen entering the office of Bahujan Samajwadi Party and the two accused men, who are cousins of BJP candidate got angry over it. The duo had thought, Sagar is supporting the BSP, sources added. However, the police has ruled any political angle, saying Deepak and Manoj were related to the local BJP leader Sonu Verma, who is contesting the municipal elections. But the BJP leader was also close to the victim.

POSSIBLE MOTIVE

The incident might be a fallout of political rivalry. According to sources, Sagar was seen entering the office of Bahujan Samajwadi Party and when the two accused got angry and attacked him.
