Two men arrested for smuggling gold worth Rs 12L at Delhi airport

Officers said that the gold was concealed in the belt of one of the passengers which he was wearing on his waist.

Two men, allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold worth over Rs 12 lakh, were arrested by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Saturday at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). 

Officers said that the gold was concealed in the belt of one of the passengers which he was wearing on his waist.

According to the senior officers, it was on Saturday around 1:15 pm, during pre-embarkation security check (frisking) at the International arrival transfer Security Hold Area (SHA), when Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohammad Imran of the CISF noticed the presence of metal in waist area of a passenger namely Gurusharan Singh, who had arrived from Bangkok by Flight AI-333 and further bound for Amritsar by Air India flight AI-016.

“The passenger was asked to remove the belt for physical checking. On physical checking of the belt, five gold bars weighing about 400 grams, concealed inside the waist belt, were recovered. Senior officers of the CISF and Customs were informed. On enquiry by the CISF surveillance team and Customs, he revealed that he was supposed to hand over the gold to another passenger,” said Hemendra Singh, AIG and PRO, CISF.
