Police said the driver fled the spot after the accident leaving his truck behind

Two killed and two were injured after a speeding truck driver lost control and hit an Innova car from behind late on Monday night in Badalpur area of Greater Noida.

According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Dinesh Singh and Umesh, who were heading back home from Khureji area to Ghaziabad along with their friends Pramod and Raj Kumar who were injured.

"The incident took place at around 11:30 pm when the four friends were heading back home after attending a function in Khureji area. When they reached Achheja village, a speeding truck hit their car from behind," said Mukesh Kumar, Station House Officer, Badalpur police station.

Police said the driver fled the spot after the accident leaving his truck behind. Later, the locals informed the police and the four were rushed to a nearby hospital where Umesh and Dinesh were declared dead on arrival.

"Raj Kumar and Pramod were admitted to the Intense Care Unit and their condition is stated to be critical. We are trying to trace the details of the truck owner so that we nab the driver," Kumar added.

Police have registered a first information report against an unknown person under sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 304A (Causing death by negligence) and 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code.
