Two groups of youths clashed with each other after a motorcycle brushed past one of them in Shahdara's Vishwas Nagar area on Wednesday. The fight initially started when they were all flying kites but later turned ugly after the motorcle touched one of them. Cases on the complaint of both parties have been registered.
The youths were speeding through a crowdwd lane in the New Sanjay Colony. This is when they had an argument with the boys of another group. When one of the youths tried to grab a string of a kite, one from the other group beat him up with an iron rod. This led to a clash between the two groups. Soon, people from a religious site and the colonies nearby joined the fight during which both the groups pelted stones at each other.
Soon after a team from the Farsh Bazar police station reached the scene and controlled the two groups. Three of the youths who were injured in the incident were taken to the hospital and discharged after a first aide.
Sources say that a large force was deployed after rumours were spread that a communal clash broke out over a group opposing the playing of the national anthem, however, according to the police, the team was deployed because of a sealing drive on Thursday.
DCP (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav, however, clarified that it was purely a fight between two groups of boys, incidentally belonging to different communities. "We have registered two FIRs, under sections of 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 323 (causing hurt) on the basis of a complaint from one group, while a case of causing hurt was registered on the complaint from the other group," said the DCP.
