Two detained by Special Cell of Delhi Police for attack on Umar Khalid

Sleuths of the Special Cell had been raiding several places after the video message went viral and were camping in several parts of Haryana in order to trace the accused.

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police detained two men who had, allegedly in a video message, taken responsibility of the attack on Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student leader Umar Khalid a day before Independence Day in the hight security Lutyen's Zone. The police officials are interrogating the accused persons.

Sleuths of the Special Cell had been raiding several places after the video message went viral and were camping in several parts of Haryana in order to trace the accused. The accused identified as the two men have been identified as Darvesh Shahpur and Naveen Dalal. The duo hailed from the Madhoti village in Haryana. The police officials are interrogating them in order to establish the link behind the attack and them. One of the accused Darvesh resembles the man the police had seen running in the CCTV footage towards the Patel Chowk Metro station.

In a video message, the two attackers had earlier said that they would surrender before the police on August 17.
