The Gautam Budh Nagar police have arrested two sharp-shooters in connection with the murder of the infamous land mafia Motilal Goel on Monday night from the Sector 49 area here. The police said that the two sharp-shooters were hired for Rs 5 each. The duo was hired by a history-sheeter from Dankaur who is absconding. The police said that the shooters had made several attempts to kill Goel but could not execute them.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Amit Pehelwan and Rahul who had shot dead Goel while he was supervising the construction work of a commercial plaza near Salarpur road on April 16.

"We had recovered cartridges of .30 carbine pistol from the body of the deceased after which we had formed a team and a technical surveillance was carried out which showed the presence of the two accused in the area at the time of the murder. We had formed teams to nab them," said Arun Kumar Singh, Superintendent Of Police (City).

Police had got a tip-off about the two, along with another miscreant, travelling towards Sector 71, so police picketing was placed near Sector 49.

"As we spotted the bike which was used in the crime, we signalled it to stop but instead of stopping they fired at the police party. After a brief encounter, the two accused were arrested while one miscreant managed to flee away. The police recovered the .30 carbine pistole from their possession along with a country-made pistol," Singh said.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they were hired by Harender, who was a former councillor and a history-sheeter in Greater Noida, for Rs 5 lakh each to eliminate Goel. The two criminals came on a Bajaj Pulsar on April 16, parked the bike outside the boundary wall of the plot and entered the premises. Amit had the .30 carbine with which he shot Goel while Rahul was on the bike.

"The accused revealed that they met Harender at the district court around 2 months ago. Harender had a land dispute with Goel and the latter was not agreeing to a compromise, so he wanted to eliminate him to which they agreed," Singh said.

The police said that Harender had told the arrested accused that he would provide them with a bike and two pistols to execute the crime. He used to roam around with the accused and would keep a check on Goel's route every day.

"They had tried to eliminate Goel earlier on April 2 and April 4 but were unsuccessful as they didn't get a chance but finally eliminated him on April 16," said Singh.

Police have formed teams to nab Harender to cross verify the facts while the other four accused are absconding. Harender had paid Rs 50,000 in advance to the two arrested accused, the police said.
