The businessmen Siddhartha Jain, a jeweller, and Praveen Garg, a cloth trader, were kidnapped on Monday afternoon when they had gone to meet a client Gaurav Saini.

According to police, the assailants, after kidnapping the duo reached their shop and house and took cash after making the attendant talk to the kidnapped trader over the phone. Later in the evening, they made a ransom call to Jain's wife asking her to pay Rs 1 crore else they will kill her husband.

Following the delay in making payment, the assailants held the two persons with the help of some goons, and forced them into a black Etios car and drove away on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. The assailants allegedly thrashed the traders mercilessly during the journey.

The police said that as the car stopped at Kot Toll plaza, the victims kicked the car's door in order to seek help and it opened. The toll plaza staff suspected foul play and informed the police, who started chasing the criminals. The criminals fled away abandoning the car and both the traders in Bilsuri area of Bulandshahr on NH91.

"The two businessmen have been safely rescued and handed over to the Haryana police. We have launched a search to arrest the absconding criminals," said Ajay Pal Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gautam Budh Nagar.
