A 22-year-old woman might knock on the doors of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, as one month has passed since she lodged a dowry harassment FIR against her in-laws, but no action has been yet taken in the matter. Meanwhile, her husband has granted her divorce via an SMS. The Gurugram-based man allegedly sent a 'talaq, talaq, talaq' message to his father-in-law's mobile phone. DNA has a copy of the FIR and the SMS.

According to sources, Salma, a resident of Gautampuri in Dadri of Greater Noida, got married to Azad, 25, a resident of Surat Nagar in Gurugram on April 10, 2016. Talking to DNA, Salma's father Hakeem Mohammad Iqbal said that before the wedding, he was told that Azad was a government employee but it was later revealed that he did not hold a permanent position. He further alleged that afterwards, Salma was abused for dowry.

According to the FIR, Salma's family spent nearly Rs 15 lakh on the wedding and gifted a Maruti Suzuki Alto car, besides gold and silver jewellery, to Azad. The mediator, Israel, a relative of Azad, allegedly told her family that the groom worked as a clerk in the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram.

"Soon after the wedding, Salma found out that Azad had a private job. "When I questioned, they beat me up," she stated in the complaint. Then on April 16, her in-laws dropped her near her home in Dadri. She then told her family about the problems.

The next day, Salma filed an FIR against her husband Azad, father-in-law Aas Mohammad, sister-in-law Rasmeena and Asmeena, the mother-in-law, and mediator Israel. "Two days later, Azad sent a message on my mobile phone," Iqbal said.

The message sent on April 19 stated: "Main apki beti salma to talaq talaq talaq deta hu. Uske sath rehna haram hai."

"Triple talaq must be abolished. There must be a law against those practicing triple talaq. We will go from pillar to post to get justice for my daughter and for lakhs of other daughters, who have become a victim of this corrupt system," Iqbal added.
