An aspiration to rule the Capitals's criminal gangs has landed three men and a juvenile behind the bars. The four had recently pumped nine bullets into one of their friends in full public view over a petty issue in north-east Delhi to announce their debut into the crime world. After the gruesome murder, they went to GB Road to celebrate the beginning of their "career", police said.

The incident was reported on February 13. A man, later identified as Jafrabad resident Aslam, had died after being shot nine times. Initial probe revealed that he had gone to meet a friend at Chauhan Banger when two bike-borne men came and fired more than two dozen rounds, leaving Aslam dead on the spot.

Eye-witnesses told the police that after killing Aslam, one of the assailants dragged the body with his foot, and then fired a shot in the air to scare the public, warning them to not disclose anything to the police. The men also announced that the murder was the beginning of their career in crime, police said.

"Eye-witnesses identified the assailants as Imran and Nafees. On February 19, two of their accomplices, Kartar Singh and a juvenile, who were in continuous touch with them, were nabbed and two pistols were recovered," DCP (north-east) Ajit Singla said. Interrogation revealed that the accused had spent the night after the murder at GB Road. Based on the information, Imran and Nafees were also arrested on Thursday.

The DCP added: "During interrogation, Nafees disclosed that they were friends with the victim, Aslam, who worked as a cab driver. He had taken an Eeco Van on rent from a woman. Earlier this month, the woman filed a complaint against him over an argument related to the vehicle. Aslam then sought help from Imran and Nafees, but instead of helping him, they handed over the van to the woman. This led to soured relations, and Aslam started spreading rumours that Nafees and Imran cheated him to the tune of Rs 4.5 lakh. Feeling insulted, the duo decided to shoot him."
