The streets of South Delhi's Shahpur Jat were witness to high drama after a transgender went on a wild goose chase for her alleged lover who had stopped living with her. The drama which began on Sunday night at 10:30 pm continued way into midnight with police officials only standing as mute spectators.

It was only when the situation went out of control with more people getting together to thrash the transgenders that the police took her away.

Police officials said that a medical examination has been conducted and they will wait for the complainant to come forward and then decide future course of action.

It was around 10:30 pm that three transgenders came to Shahpur Jat area close to the DDA park. One of them identified as Deepika (23) was searching for a man called Harshwardhan (30) who used to earlier live with her. The woman accompanied by two of her friends Pannu (32) and Siri (22) went near his house to enquire about him as Harshwardhan had started avoiding her for the past few months.

An agitated Deepika even damaged the car by breaking the windshield of his family's car. She even stripped and blocked the traffic on the road. But this was not it, as a crowd gathered at the location there were some who started thrashing them with a stick but the policemen just stood and watch the drama unfold.

"Deepika and her friends sustained minor injuries and hence medically examined at AIIMS. The final result of the MLC is pending. None of the party has so far given any written complaint. We will wait for the complainant to come forward and if not then we will decide the course of action," said Vijay Kumar, DCP, South.

"First a police van came with two police officials, then a motorcycle with two other officers, a woman police officer also came. There were at least 6-7 police officers but none intervened to save them. We feel the cops are hand in glove with the transgenders as they wait for the drama to happen, watch like spectators and then when they feel the crowd might go out of control they then take them away," said one of the residents of the area who did not wish to be named.

According to the police, a PCR call regarding three transgenders roaming nude near Shiv Mandir, Shahpur Jat area was at 11.30 PM. The call was deputed to Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) for further enquiry.
