Three people mowed down by train near Delhi's Nangloi

They were consuming alcohol on the tracks in Nangloi when the incident took place at around 6.30 am.

Drinking alcohol on the railway track proved costly for three men who were run over by a train in outer Delhi's Nangloi on Monday morning. Police said prima facie it appears that they were all intoxicated and could not move away from the railway tracks on time.

According to police, the deceased has been identified as Sushil Kumar (28), Dishant Kumar (26) and Mukesh Verma (50). They were consuming alcohol on the tracks in Nangloi when the incident took place at around 6.30 am.

"Ferozpur Intercity City train number 12456 passes through that route, however, it does not stop at Nangloi station. Deceased were sitting near an electric pole when they were run over by the train. We received police control room call in Sarai Rohilla at 7.22 am," said Deputy commissioner of police (Railways), Dinesh Kumar Gupta.

A police team reached the spot and the dismembered bodies of the three men were recovered. Initial investigation revealed that three persons were run over while they were drinking alcohol on the railway track.

"The bodies were sent to Sabji Mandi mortuary for post-mortem examination and the family members of the deceased were informed. The investigating officer has been directed to get the viscera preserved to ascertain the presence of alcohol," said Gupta.

Police said that they have recovered two bottles of a country made liquor, one packet snacks, a bundle of bidi, matchbox, cigarettes packets from the place of the accident. Three disposal glasses were also recovered.

According to Ashwini Kumar, Sushil's father who is an auto driver by profession said that Sushil had come home around 6 am after which he took his jacket and left again.

"We were clueless about where he was heading. It was totally unpredictable that something of this would happen," said Kumar, a native of Amritsar in Punjab.

According to the family members of Sushil, he was about to get married as the parents had started looking for a life partner for him.

According to Neelam, Mukesh's wife, who called him just before the incident said that he told her that he would return back in an hour.

"He didn't come back home from the shop where he works as a tailor. When I called him in the morning at around 6.20am to know where he is he said that he would be coming home in an hour. However, after an hour we got a call from the police station who informed us about the incident," cried Neelam.

He was survived by his wife and three children including two sons and a daughter. Mukesh's father Om Prakash (73) retired as a postman in 2002.

Police said that the three accused were habitual drinkers and found of gambling. However, the family members were unaware of the fact.
