The Delhi Police have arrested three men for allegedly killing the security guard of a construction firm for trying to raise an alarm when they were breaking open the door of the firm's cash room near the Barakhamba Road area. Police said the CCTV cameras installed on the premises had captured one of the accused trying to change the camera angle.

The accused were identified as the firm's pantry boy Sohan Singh, 42, and two former employees — Akhtar and Ramesh.

The matter came to light on April 30, when the body of the night security guard, Jitender Shukla, 30, was found lying in the office of the Ansal Housing and Constructions. The body had multiple slit wounds on the throat and the cash room had been broken in. A screw driver, which was used to open the lock of the cash room, was also recovered from the spot.

DCP (New Delhi) BK Singh said: "The CCTV cameras were checked and it was found that some of them were not functioning while the accused had covered the main cameras with a tape. During the scrutiny of CCTV footage from nearby offices, accused Sohan was seen on the premises around 8 pm on April 29. He was along with two other suspicious persons. One of them was seen tilting the cameras to avoid being captured and identified."

The probe further revealed that Sohan had not been coming to work since the day of the incident. A police team then traced his location. A raid was conducted and he was nabbed. During interrogation, Sohan confessed to have committed the crime along with Akhtar and Ramesh. On his instance, Ramesh was arrested while Akhtar was nabbed from the New Delhi railway station just as he was trying to escape to Ajmer Sharif.

"Sohan had been working in the office for the last eight years. His pantry is located near the cash room and he knew about the guard's movements. Facing a financial crunch, he planned the theft and involved the other two. On April 29, they gathered at the office and consumed liquor. Sohan then guided the two men inside through a fire exit while the guard, Shukla, was off to dinner. He arrived at the spot after hearing the sound of the lock breaking.

The trio then killed him with a khukhri," the officer said.
