Three, including a juvenile, held for killing youth over a cigarette in Subhash Place

The Delhi Police have apprehended three persons including a juvenile for killing a 21-year-old youth who refused to share the cigarette he was smoking with them in NorthWest Delhi's Subhash Place area.

According to the police the incident took place in the intervening night of March 21 and 22. Mohit, a software graphic designer student studying at a private institute in Delhi, was out for a midnight ride along with his friends.

The police received a call around 12:30 am regarding a man being stabbed on road number 41 near Pitampura TV tower. While Mohit was smoking a cigarette, one of his friends was away and the other was standing next to him. Three men then approached Mohit and asked him to share the cigarette with him. He refused to share the cigarette after which one of them whipped out a knife as the other two held him and stabbed him repeatedly. While fleeing, they even took his mobile phone with them. Mohit's friend who was along with him ran to call his other friend who was at a distance for help but by the time he returned the accused men had fled.

The accused have been identified as Irshad alias Babu (19), Vishal (22) and a juvenile. Mohit's friends told the police that the accused men had come on a motorcycle. Footages from hundreds of CCTV cameras were examined and the motorcycle was tracked down. The police searched various areas and finally managed to get hold of them on Saturday. The trio resides in JJ Colony Shakurpur. They are drug addicts and Irshad and Vishal were earlier involved in petty offences.

"A case under sections of 302 (murder), 392 (whoever commits robbery) and 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) was registered at Subhash Place police station. A team led by Satish Kumar Station House, Officer (SHO) Subhash Place cracked the case," said Aslam Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North-West Delhi.
