Three cycle to Lucknow to meet UP CM

A group of cycling enthusiasts from Noida are pedalling from Delhi to Lucknow, to submit a petition to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, urging him to provide for better infrastructure for cyclists in Noida and other cities of the state. They will cover 550 km in three days, and will be returning to the Capital within a week.

The riders, IT professionals Anupam Gupta and Kirti M Rawat, and homemaker Suchanda Vyas started their journey on Tuesday.

The trio, a part of the Bicycle Commuters Group, which is trying to popularise the concept of cycling to work, has already circulated a petition on the social media, urging the government to take back the recent decision to demolish cycling tracks, to set up cycle stands, and rental stations, and to start a mobile app to help cyclists locate existing tracks.

The petition would also like the Chief Minister to set up a panel with bureaucrats, elected representatives, and cyclists to monitor the condition of cycle tracks.

"We expect to cover 200 km on the first day and nearly 150 km each on the next two days," Rawat said. The cyclists, who will be carrying gear weighing around 8 kg.
