Three criminals wanted by Assam Police arrested

Three criminals wanted by the Assam Police was spotted and detained by Delhi Police from the Hazrat Nizamuddin area on Saturday. An information was received at the Hazrat Nizamuddin police station on Saturday that three suspected persons who were staying at the Royal Guest House in Basti Hazrat Nizamuddin, are planning to leave.

A police team was sent to the guest house and the identity of the suspects was established. They were identified as Khairul Aamin, Atikur Rehman and Rakibul Islam, all resident of Barpeta in Assam. Initially, they denied any foul play and said that that they had come to Delhi to offer prayers at Dargah Hazrat Nizamuddin. However, on sustained interrogation, they disclosed that a consignment of cigarettes was loaded from an ITC godown from Kamrup district of Assam for Agartala in Tripura, which was misappropriated with the help of the truck driver Sakayet Ali, a Delhi Police personnel said. Following which, they had fled to Delhi from Assam to evade arrest.

On his instance, others involved in the theft of the consignment have been arrested by the Assam police and 49 cartons of 319 cartons have been recovered.
