The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested three men for allegedly planning to kill a prime witness in a murder case at the behest of a man lodged in Rohini jail.

A team of Special Cell laid a trap to catch the criminals. The police team spotted three suspicious looking persons engrossed in a deep conversation which alerted them.

They were overpowered and identified as Pradeep Kumar (38), Sandeep (32) and Sanjeet Kumar (29).

A 9 mm pistol and two country-made pistols along with 12 live cartridges have been recovered from them.

In November 2016, one Praveen, brother of Rajesh Chahal, was kidnapped and beaten up mercilessly by one Ajay and Anil. A case was registered at Narela but after two months Praveen had passed away.

On October 31, 2017, in retaliation, Chahal, along with two of his associates, killed Ajay in front of his house. His brother Vijay was the complainant and the prime witness in that case.

Chahal, along with one Surender, was arrested in the case. While Surender was granted bail, Chahal is still lodged in Rohini jail. While still being inside the jail, he conspired with Pradeep, Sandeep, Sanjeet, Surender and Vikas, all residents of Sanoth village, to eliminate Vijay, the police said.

He helped them in arranging weapons to eliminate prime witness Vijay.

"On April 19, the police learnt that some persons from Chahal's village were planning to eliminate Vijay. For executing the plan, they would first assemble at Ghogha Chowk, Narela-Bawana Road to discuss the strategy and then they would proceed for the commission of crime," said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).
