Third minor working as house help rescued by Delhi Commission for Women

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) rescued third minor girl this week who was being forced to work as a domestic help. DCW office received an information through a call that a minor girl aged 14 years work as domestic help in the Kingsway Camp area. A DCW team immediately reached the given address along with the police and found the child working there.

The girl was rescued and also counselled. She informed the commission that her father died when she was very young. She said that after her father's death, her mother used to live with her stepfather. She also said that she had requested her cousin for a job in Delhi. Her cousin was known to the family where she was working now on the salary of Rs 5, 000 a month since February 2017. But she was paid only Rs 12,000 till now.

After being rescued, the girl was sent to a shelter home for the night and next morning she was produced in front of CWC. CWC ordered the police to register an FIR and also for ossification test. AN FIR has been registered in the matter under section 75/76/3/14,16 of the JJ Act.

DCW chief Swati Maliwal said, "These small girls working in such conditions are really inhuman. Humanity itself is at stake. We all need to ensure a healthy childhood, education and health facilities for these kids. All stakeholders must come together and act".
