Tempo trying to reverse kills man in Delhi’s Ranjeet Nagar

A 53-year-old man was crushed under the wheels of a tempo in central Delhi’s Ranjeet nagar late night on Friday. The accused has been arrested, police said.

According to the police, the deceased, Deepak Mehra, a tea stall owner, had gone to visit someone and was returning from Ranjeet Nagar when the accident took place.

“A tempo, which was being reversed in a narrow lane, knocked him down. The driver and two other men abandoned the tempo and fled from the spot. Mehra’s body was spotted by a police patrol vehicle which took him to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead,” said a senior police officer.

During investigation, the police checked the CCTV footage from the locality and traced the vehicle, which led them to the driver. “The driver was identified as 27-year-old Dharma, a resident of Delhi,” the officer said.

Police said Mehra is survived by his wife and three daughters, all of them married. The man’s body was handed over to his family members after a post mortem examination, police said.
