Despite the Delhi University (DU) staffers' best efforts to make the process less cumbersome for undergraduate aspirants, technical glitches marred the first day of admissions on Saturday.

While many students said they could not access the admission portal as the server of the varsity's website remained down for half a day, some said while they managed to log in, the tabs on the portal were not opening.

"How can we finish the admission process when we do not even know which college we have qualified for?" Rued Nikhil Bansal, a resident of Civil Lines.

While some colleges removed the technical glitches by after noon, students in other colleges struggled till late in the evening. The staffers also faced pressure on account of a two-day holiday, which was set to follow the first day of admissions.

Meanwhile, some students who managed to get their admission slips and documents verified could not submit the fee as the portal stopped working.

"I could not complete the procedure today, despite coming to the college at 10 am," Shreya Singh said.

This year, off-campus colleges have announced higher cut-offs, similar to those announced by the North and South campus colleges.

Analysis

The authorities must make the process of admission simpler as the number of students applying to the Delhi University increases every year.
The university must come up with a system under which the portal is not overburdened.
