The Delhi University (DU) extended the time for admissions under the third cut-off list till Wednesday after hundreds of students could not complete the admission process online due to technical glitches till the last day of admission on Tuesday. The deadline may further extend if the glitches are not solved by Wednesday evening.

According to varsity officials, the problem occurred due to a "cable theft" near Vishwavidyalaya Metro station. "The internet cables got damaged due to which the server remained down frequently since Monday. However, the aspirants need not worry as extra time will be provided to everyone to complete the admission process," said a senior official familiar with the development.

Besides, hundreds of students could not finish their withdrawal process after the portal became non-functional. "I wanted to withdraw admission from Daulat Ram College as I have qualified for admission in History (H) in Ramjas College under the third list. Due to the server issues, I could not even initiate the process. Now, will try again on Wednesday," said Nandini Singh, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Meerut.

Almost half of the under-graduation seats got filled under the second cut-off list across the university. However, due to 3,200 number of cancellations, several colleges had to re-open admissions in some courses under the third list. For instance, Hindu College had closed admission to 11 out of 18 courses under the second list. However, the college re-opened admissions in three courses, including Chemistry (Hons) under the third list. The DU was scheduled to release fourth cut-off on Thursday evening.

However, officials said the schedule might shift further due to delay in admissions under the third list. "We have sent a communication to the Vice-Chancellor's Office regarding the delay. We are waiting for a response," the official said.
