The Delhi Police have arrested a 38-year-old software engineer from Dwarka for allegedly raping a woman after befriending her on a matrimonial site and later promising to marry her.

According to the police, on May 31, a woman approached the police stating that she had met a man on a matrimonial site Jeevansathi.com. "On the website, the accused had posted his status as unmarried and posed himself as a software engineer earning a handsome salary in a reputed firm," said Shibesh Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dwarka.

The accused, identified as Atul Kumar Tomar, met the woman and their wedding date was fixed for July 13. She was later informed that Tomar was already married and has two children as well.

When she questioned him, he left and was absconding. A case was then registered and investigations were taken up.

The police managed to arrest the accused after several attempts. First, police officials were informed that the accused man worked in Software One, a company in Gurugram. After checking the records, it turned out that his permanent address was in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. However, the accused was not found there as he had given his house on rent.

"The investigating officials sought his passport number and PAN card details from concerned departments. But the address was the same. The victim also told the police that the accused had mentioned that he wanted to develop his own company in the name of Buck Eye Soft Ltd," said Singh.

The name of this company was searched on Google and the company was found. Tomar's name was mentioned in the list of directors of the company. Later, various details of the accused were collected and a home loan was found in his name in the Omicron apartments in Greater Noida.
