Sweeper held for molesting Delhi University student

A final year student of BA (English) at South Campus's Ram Lal Anand college was allegedly molested by a sweeper inside the college campus on Tuesday afternoon. The accused identified as Ranjan has been arrested by the police.

According to the police, the girl was going to the washroom around noon when the accused man followed her and later forcefully held her hand. The woman in her complaint told the police that the accused first held her hand and then tried to pull her towards himself. She managed to free herself and reported the matter to the college principal who informed the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Milind Dumbre said that a case of molestation has been registered at the South Campus police station. The accused was arrested from the college in the afternoon.

In 2017, as many as 944 cases of assault on women were reported till April 15, 2018, while the number stood at 883 in the corresponding period last year. As many as 3,273 molestation cases were reported last year as compared to 4,035 in 2016, according to the statistics.
