Summer camps organised by Delhi government - in all 1,024 schools run by it till Class VI - came to an end with great fanfare on Saturday. The camps were held for almost one month, from May 11 to June 3.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said, "This is the first time that across the state, government schools have held summer camps for children. Many big private schools hold such camps each year, but we want children studying in government schools to also get such opportunities. I am happy to share that this year, the summer camps were even more large in scale, as we also invited parents to join with their children."

Children performed several activities showcasing their talents with their proud parents in audience. A closing ceremony was held with certificates being handed out to all the children as a token of appreciation for their participation. Children and their parents returned to their homes on the last day of the camps with immense happiness and jubilation.

Last year, such camps were held in 551 schools as a pilot. After the success of last year's camps, for the first time the government held summer camps in every one of its schools in Delhi.

The summer camps were conceptualised as opportunities to bridge learning gaps of children entering Delhi government schools for the first time from MCD schools after class five. Activities and games were designed in a way that also educates children in the process.
