The Special Cell of Delhi Police arrested two persons, who were a part of an international drug cartel involving people of African and Afghan origin, on December 27. Three kilograms of fine quality heroin, worth over Rs 15 crore in the international market, was also recovered from their possession. In the last year, over 40 kg of heroin has been recovered by the cell.

"The arrested accused have been identified as Ravi Shankar alias Ravi Arora, 50 and Vikas alias Bhola, 30, residents of Hoshiarpur in Punjab. Ravi has been previously convicted for 20 years in two cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS). Not just Indians, people from Afghanistan and Africa are also a part of this drug cartel," said Pramod Kushwah, DCP, Special Cell.

A team of Special Cell officers had been working on various drug syndicates for several months. Acting on a tip-off that the accused have collected the heroin consignment from an African and would be moving towards the Vikaspuri area, a trap was laid and the duo was arrested. A team of Delhi Police also went to Punjab to raid Ravi's house and recovered 500 g of heroin from there.

The duo revealed that they received the supply from a Nigerian national. They further disclosed that the 'carriers' would swallow the heroin capsules and transported them this way.

"Several consignments were sent to European, African, and other countries. The main supplier, who got in touch with Ravi after a Nigerian woman introduced them, has been identified. The woman was lodged at the Kapurthala Jail, where Ravi was jailed as well," police said.
