A 25-year-old woman, who was found last month with her two children -- a three-year-old girl and an 18-month-old boy -- with the throats of all three slit, in south Delhi's Hauz Rani, gained consciousness on Sunday and blamed her husband and in-laws for the incident.

Police are interrogating her in-laws while no arrest has been made yet. However, medical reports suggest that the woman's wounds were "self-inflicted".

On November 17, police were informed that a woman slashed her daughter's and son's throat and tried to kill herself. When a police team reached the spot, they found Mohsina Begum and the kids in a pool of blood.

While the girl succumbed to her injuries, the boy and his mother had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Saket. Police registered a case of murder and attempt to murder.

According to the police, the woman said in a statement that on November 16, when she was asleep with her kids, her husband, Mohammad Shamim, came home and started abusing her.

"Shamim came home at around 12 am and thrashed me. He kept beating me until 4 am. At the same time, my father-in-law and mother-in-law also came in to check on us. At around 7 am, when I was about to sleep, I saw Shamim and Mohammad Saleem, my brother-in-law, trying to slash my daughter's throat with a knife.

"When I tried to intervene, they cut my finger with the knife," said Mohsina in the statement.

When she tried to intervene again, the two men allegedly slit her throat. She fled outside but could not speak. She went back to the house and fainted. She does not remember the events that followed and has not been told of her daughter's death yet.

"We have collected the daughter's post-mortem report and will be questioning her further. Going by her statement, we will interrogate her in-laws. Right now, the role of Shamim, and Saleem," said Vijay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).

So far, Mohsina Begum has been the prime suspect as police believed that she had killed her daughter and tried to commit suicide.
