The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) is all set to flag off a new fleet of mobile transfer stations and auto tippers, used for scientific disposal of solid waste, in the Capital.

Delhi BJP Chief and MP Manoj Tiwari will inaugurate the fleet on May 11. The event will be organised at C-Block Park in Green Park Extension.

After the BJP swept the 2017 municipal polls, the transfer stations will be the first new project to be inaugurated by Tiwari. The stations will come handy in the civic body's project of cleaning dhalaos (landfills), and in managing disintegrated waste through new technology, such as compactors. The segregated waste will be sent to waste to energy conversion plant.

"The system will not only help in reducing garbage at each of the dhalaos but also cut down on the amount of waste to be sent to landfill sites," a senior SDMC official said. The plan includes collection of door-to-door garbage, compressing of waste, and transporting it directly to the conversion plant.

"What was happening till now was that the garbage collected from these houses was being dumped and then carried to landfill sites. We want to abolish the concept of dhalaos in the city, as these heaps of garbage around residential areas invite diseases and become an eyesore," the official said.
