Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) Anil Baijal was the chief guest said that teachers have been opening doors of knowledge for the student and they also disseminate values to them.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) organised a Teachers' Day Function on Wednesday at the Siri Fort Auditorium to present municipal awards to six principals, 26 primary teachers, 2 nursery teachers and one special teacher for their remarkable contribution in disseminating knowledge to the students in the schools. The award carries an amount of Rs 10,000 a memento and citation.

Baijal said that "Chalta Hai" attitude must be stopped so that everybody can seriously contribute in their respective fields. Appreciating the achievements of SDMC and its education department, Baijal stressed upon the need of publicising the achievements forcefully. The good work must be communicated to the society, said Baijal. He said that Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan was a well-known philosopher and educationist who used to involve himself deeply in the social works. Baijal said that Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Swachhta Abhiyan to make all villages and cities garbage free and clean and it is now time to give more momentum to this movement which is becoming a result-oriented public movement.
Mayor Shri Narendra Chawla while presenting the awards to the teachers said that education is a continuous process and teachers have been devoting their maximum time on educating their students. The teachers not only work for the character building of the children but also for the nation building. Chawla elaborated achievements in the field of education and said that the Buniyad Programme conducted during summer holidays has gone a long way in bridging the gap of knowledge in the weak students. He also referred to the Mega PTM organized as per theme based agenda.
A special presentation of a light and sound show based on the life and teachings of Lord Krishna was shown in the function.
