The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which is into an overdrive to ease commuting woes, will provide further relief to Delhiites by launching operations on South Campus - Lajpat Nagar corridor of Pink Line in July. The 37.03 km long route is part of the Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar track that spans into 58.59 km and is known as part of Phase III Metro.

The DMRC has its itinerary completely chalked out till September when it plans to open more routes on Pink Line in the next three months. It is likely to start commercial operations between Shiv Vihar to Trilokpuri in August while in September, the Metro will chug between Lajpat Nagar and Mayur Vihar, Pocket-I. However, the Dwarka Mor-Najafgarh corridor of 4.29 km is still under construction, which will delay its being functional anytime soon.

According to senior DMRC officials, the rail corporation is examining the South Campus-Lajpat Nagar track for security clearance. Once complete, it will send a file to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) who will further inspect the corridor as part of security clearance procedure. Once the CMRS gives its go ahead, the Metro will start operations on this track in July. The South Campus-Lajpat Nagar route will make it convenient for people from outer and West Delhi to travel to Sarojini Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, INA and South Extension.

In April, the rail body had started a trial run on the 8.1 km long Lajpat Nagar-Sir Vishweshwaraiah Moti Bagh section of the Pink Line. This stretch has six stations— Sir Vishweshwaraih Moti Bagh, Bhikaji Cama Place, Sarojini Nagar, INA, South Extension, and Lajpat Nagar, including two interchange stations at INA and Lajpat Nagar, where commuters can change for the Yellow and Violet lines, respectively.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Delhi Metro's Mundka-Bahadurgarh section of Green Line. The 11.2-km-long fully-elevated Mundka-Bahadurgarh stretch, with seven stations, is an extension of the existing Green Line (standard-gauge tracks) from Inderlok to Mundka.
