A 62-year-old woman was murdered by her son with an iron rod, while he left two of his brothers injured in the Jharcha area on Monday morning. The accused is absconding while prima facie it appears to be a case of property dispute, the police said.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Shakuntala (62), who was sleeping when her eldest son Ajit (35) attacked her with the iron rod and later attacked his two brothers identified as Jitendra and Pushpendra.
"The incident took place around 5 am when Shakuntala was sleeping in her room when Ajit came and started attacking her with the rod. On hearing her cries, Jitendra and Pushpendra reached the spot and tried to control
Ajit," said Nishank Sharma, Circle Officer (Dadri). Within minutes, Ajit went out of control and attacked them as well. He then fled the spot. Neighbours reached for help as they heard loud cries from the house.
"A neighbour rushed them to a hospital in Ghaziabad and made a police control room call to inform them of the incident. Shakuntala was declared brought dead on arrival while the other two are battling for their lives at the
hospital," Sharma said.
According to a senior police officer, the accused was a constant troublemaker for the family and fights at their home had intensified since their father's retirement.
"He used to ask for his share in the property and wanted to separate from the family. All of Sunday night he fought with his mother who opposed the division of money and property. The accused is absconding and we have formed teams to arrest him," Sharma said.
The police has booked Ajit under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (punishment for oluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
