Snowfall in north India brings rain to national Capital

According to the meteorological department, rain and snowfall in upper reaches and Western disturbance have led to the showers and cold gusty winds.

Despite heavy traffic jams, the city was immersed in celebrating a pleasant Monday morning as a result of the rainfall on the third consecutive day. Thick cover of clouds hung over the national Capital with light drizzle that led to intermittent showers through the day, extending well in the evening.

Mercury plummeted to 24 degrees Celsius as the weatherman predicted light showers on Tuesday too. Rain gods have been smiling on the city and neighbouring areas since Saturday, lashing many parts with intermittent spells.
According to the meteorological department, rain and snowfall in upper reaches and Western disturbance have led to the showers and cold gusty winds.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature was recorded at 24 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature was 31 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's average. The relative humidity was recorded at 92 per cent and rainfall was 16.3 mm.

Delhi has recorded surplus rain this month, highest since 2011, when it rained 225.2 mm. This month, it has touched 224.5 mm, a surplus of over 105 per cent. On Monday, 16.3mm rainfall was recorded.

On Sunday, the Safdarjung observatory recorded 2.4mm rain in the last 24 hours. The rains were accompanied with strong gust of winds, lighting and thundering. Strong winds blew throughout the day otherwise as well. Mercury dropped a few notches, providing relief from the sultry weather in the past week. Maximum temperature was recorded at 31.2 degrees Celsius, which was three degrees below normal. The minimum temperature was one notch above season's average at 25 degrees Celsius.
