Commuters using the Blue Line of Delhi Metro faced a harrowing time on Tuesday as the train speed was restricted following a snag in the Over Head Electrification (OHE) between Pragati Maidan and Mandi House stations.

“A speed restriction of 20 kmph was imposed from 11.20am onwards between Pragati Maidan and Mandi House Metro stations on upline towards Dwarka for attending to Over Head Electrification (OHE) problem in the section,” a Metro official said.

As a result, the services ran late and halted much more than normal at each station in the initial few hours. The situation turned better after some time even as the downline trains coming from Dwarka to Noida/Vaishali remained overcrowded.

Ajeet Tiwari, a commuter, said: “The frequency of the trains was low and they got stranded several times. The train I was in halted twice, once between Akshardham and Yamuna Bank, and then between Mandi House and Barakhambha stations.”

Another communter said: “It took me an additional 25 minutes to cover the distance that already takes 40 minutes.”

Both Rajiv Chowk and Mandi House, which are connecting stations, witnessed a huge rush. According to Metro officials, the problem was fixed at 2.46pm, following which the speed and the frequency of services were restored.
The Blue Line of Delhi Metro consists of 44 stations, from Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida City Centre (Sector 32), and is the most snag-prone of all Metro routes.
