Smoke in Metro coach triggers panic, disrupts traffic

All the passengers in the coach were evacuated safely and no one was hurt in the incident, officials said.Reportedly, one of the old high-voltage electric wires above the coaches had caught fire.

Panic spread among hundreds of Metro passengers travelling from Vaishali to Dwarka on Thursday, when a massive plume of smoke was detected in a coach at the Patel Nagar station around 4pm.

All the passengers in the coach were evacuated safely and no one was hurt in the incident, officials said.Reportedly, one of the old high-voltage electric wires above the coaches had caught fire. A Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson said: “The incident of smoke emanating from the top of a train coach was reported at 4pm on Line-3/4 . The smoke was reported in the last coach of the train at the Patel Nagar station.

As a precaution, the coach was evacuated.

All the passengers de-boarded at Rajendra Place Metro station. The train was thereafter withdrawn from service and sent for investigation.”
